In reply to Farideh Azad. Look forward to the next world, perhaps? Interestingly, the short healing prayer has us looking forward to the world to come, and 'Abdu'l-Bahá said we should meditate on the next world. It does tend to put things into perspective.

By the way, Dr. Hatcher, I still remember the excitement of reading your "The Purpose of Physical Reality," which was so enthralling that I and friends of mine couldn't take our eyes off it, even reading it in the car at stoplights!

Throughout the the Baha’i Writings, the value of suffering in fostering spiritual growth is extolled. I find it comparable to the worth of physical exercise in promoting bodily health. Without stretching ourselves beyond our present state of spiritual comfort, we would ultimately make no progress, even if we think we or others have not deserved injustice, sickness, or untimely demise. Ultimately, the wisdom of the various experiences of our meandering infinite life’s journey is understood solely by God Whose sole motive at every turn is to assist us in attaining the most lofty capacity and goals, even though these goals may be presently concealed from us until we enter the next stage of our development in the afterlife.
