One more reason to avoid mind-altering, or body-altering, for that matter, drugs, a law of the Faith, it was obvious, that Bahá’u’lláh made incredibly important.

The drug itself doesn’t have any hallucinogenic or psychotic properties. However, it causes severe sleep deprivation. Users can often be awake for days at a time, after which time they can start to experience hallucinations or psychotic symptoms. I recall interviewing one recovering meth addict, who told me he recalled once being awake for five or six days. “The whole town started to look like a cartoon,” he said.
