The US had a graduated income tax, and a family could be raised successfully on just one income. It was more conducive to our figuring out what our real purpose in life was and how the Faith figured into it. Let’s hope we can soon return to such a pleasant condition. Of course, it wasn’t great for everyone; we did have our problems (like racism, for example), but it seemed like most people, at least where I lived, were more balanced between material and spiritual concerns. I often wonder how we can overcome today’s distractions, which are everywhere.

Are they both prophets and the Word of God?

And of course Huquq is paid.

Uncle Mark said that sometimes he feels moved to write a song, and I asked him if he ever tried, and he replied no. He said he’d never be able to write something that would measure up to the successful songs people listen to regularly. I thought that was sad because I would have liked to hear his music. Sure his song may never be a smash hit, but I think that the creative process is worth it. You never know what the act of creativity will teach you or whose heart you will touch in the process. And even though his music probably wouldn’t reach more than 10 people, at least he would share his heart with those 10. Can you really ask for more? 🙂
